Chuwi LapBook

A good portable equipment has to gather benefits in a reduced dimensions. Apple took it much further with the MacBook Air and Asian brands are not far behind. Chuwi LapBook, a priori, is an imitation of the MacBook Air. Aesthetically, it is the reflection of the apple team with some variations. However, internally, it is a team with a performance similar to that of Chuwi tablets. Intel 4-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage memory. But its low price, good built-in keyboard, Full HD display and 10,000 mAh battery will make Mac owners look with envy the Chuwi team.

Design and materials

Chuwi momentarily steps away from his well-known tablets like Chuwi Hi10 Plus and Chuwi Hi8 Pro, to present his first lapbook. Although the term sounds like “Chinese”, the brand calls its laptop thus leaving aside convertible tablets. Thus we have a team that dispenses with the tactile possibilities of the screen and incorporates a complete keyboard with trackpad. At the design level, the resemblance to the Apple MacBook family is unquestionable.

Chuwi LapBook
Reduced dimensions and weight
After the cancellation of the MacBook Air, Chuwi LapBook comes to replace it even if it is aesthetic. Taking this referent, we are facing a team with elegant lines, construction in aluminum (except the cover), for a weight of 1.8 kg. Leave home the heavy notebook of 2.5 kg. Its dimensions are 37.10 x 23.97 x 2.20 cm (50% thinner than a regular laptop). Large screen with a diagonal of 15.6 inches and 16: 9 aspect ratio. The margins of the screen are very reduced, of only 10 mm.

The keyboard does not include the ñ key as expected, nor does it include the backlight of Mac computers. But the keys are generous in size, as is the trackpad. It is adapted to the Microsoft operating system with the key dedicated to Windows and an extra function key, such as volume control, screen brightness, etc.

Dissecting the interior of the Chuwi LapBook, we meet an old acquaintance. SoC Intel Atom X5 Z8300, from 4 cores to 1.44 GHz (1.88 GHz in turbo mode). A processor that we have seen at full capacity in several devices of the brand, as in the Chuwi Hi8 Pro or Hi10 Plus. An acceptable performance but with an Intel X7 Z8700 processor at 2.4 GHz, would have greatly improved the performance of the equipment.

We continue with the GPU, the Intel Graphics Gen.8 with support for 1,920 x 1,080 graphics and high resolution video. For RAM, Chuwi sets up a total of 4 GB of RAM for satisfactory performance with Windows 10. And an internal storage capacity of 64 GB, expandable by using microSD cards up to 128 GB. The Microsoft operating system comes pre-installed on the computer and without Dual Boot with Android.

Screen and sound

Chuwi surprises with the built-in screen in the Chuwi LapBook. A 15.6-inch LED panel with Full HD resolution and 16: 9 aspect ratio. It should be noted that finding a Full HD panel in a conventional laptop, usually makes the product much more expensive. Chuwi incorporates it in his equipment low-cost although unfortunately without the possibilities of the tactile technology. Likewise, neither is it a team that allows an opening just like a Lenovo Yoga.

High resolution with a diagonal of 15.6 inches
In the section of sound, little to emphasize. It falls far short of the performance and quality of a laptop. Given the low price of the equipment, there has to be some cuts. However, we can always use Bluetooth connectivity to link a speaker or use the 3.5 mm minijack audio output.

Camera, connectivity and battery

Simple and functional front camera located at the top of the screen. Its resolution is 2 MP, the minimum required for video calls in Skype or other programs. In the back cover we did not find any camera of higher resolution, that yes usually carry the convertible devices of Chuwi.

On a notebook computer like the Chuwi LapBook, wireless connectivity becomes very necessary. Thus we have the connection to WiFi 802.11 b / g / n networks and the connection with Bluetooth devices in version 4.0. Also connect to screens or projectors using the micro HDMI video output. Two USB ports (3.0 and 2.0), to get a high data transfer rate with our external storage devices. No matter how small, we do not forget the microSD card slot.

Chuwi LapBook
10,000 mAh for approx. 10 hours of display
The battery is one of the main highlights of the Chuwi LapBook team. With a battery of 10,000 mAh, you rarely have to use the charger. It offers an autonomy of up to 10 hours in low performance and with an average use, such as browsing or watching videos, between 5 or 7 hours. If you still think the Chuwi LapBook can run out of power, the included charger has quick charging support.
